I forgot to mention this the first time around but they brought something else back, though I think it is a bit more obscure than Pogs. Its those stacking cup things. The premise of this "toy" is to build a pyramid out of plastic cups and then see how fast you can downstack it. That's it...that's the game. Oh, its also $40. You know, I'm pretty sure drinking a bevrage out of a cup would be more rewarding..and less expensive.
On to something different...
A few years ago I had an online journal, one that I actually managed to write in regularly, and a girl left a comment on something I had written that made me go off on a huge rant..let's revisit, shall we?
She said, "I don't think people should be labeled, labels are for soup cans."
Yeah well, there is a reason there are labels on cans(you wouldn't buy a plain metal can simply marked 'Soup' would you?), its so you know what you are getting. The same goes for people, I think. Sure, sure, bitch to me about stereotyping but in most cases there is always the same base within all memebers of a subculture. If you see a punk kid or goth kid or prep or whatever you know basically what you are getting from that person, a loose guideline as to what they like and what makes them want to go kick puppies with kittens tied to thier shoes. You also get a feel for wether or not you'll get along with them. Follow me? I know it doesn't work all the time and everyone has that friend that's the complete opposite of them and hey Kevin, don't you know opposites attract? Yes..yes I do know that, but that saying is in reference to magnetic fields, generally not people.
I also think that you should just go ahead and label yourself, put it out there because if you don't than everyone else will and chances are that they will get it wrong. Though there are those that will say that they really aren't anything, they are just themselves...yes, nice, wonderful. You fall into some catagory or another, trust me. And still, there are those that will say that people can't be defined with a single word. I know this, I never said they could. A label is just a general baseline to go by, not a solid definition.
Well, that was long...and really snarky too, sounds almost like I'm pissed at whoever is reading this..I'm not, its just a good idea to be able to back up your opinions and arguments and that's what I was trying to do.
Still don't think labeling people is a good idea? Well its going to come in real handy when Solyent Green starts appearing in grocery stores.
Also, if you like to read, find a book called "Battle Royale", it is so awesome that exsisting quantitative words can't describe it.
